BenedictionThe words coming out of this angel’s mouth are purposely provocative and designed to make you wonder “What does that mean?” It’s Latin, beatus est pisciculus, meaning “Blessed is the little fish.” Floating fish symbolize the magic all around us and they are blessed little things themselves, to bring this magic into our lives. Is the angel blessing the fish or the fish blessing the angel? The fish is a symbol I frequently use and this painting was meant as my “thank-you” for a lot of the magic in my life. Christensen’s original painting is 36x48 inches. Our Anniversary edition is released in two sizes, a very limited quantity at a major-statement size of 40 x 30, and also at 24 x 18 inches. The blessing of Benediction works beautifully at either size. (See options...) |

Butterfly Knight“You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘excessive force’ — well this knight is the embodiment of excessive preparation,” says artist James C. Christensen. “He has armored himself to the point of immobility and his quarry will almost certainly evade him.” Fans of the artist will recognize many of his signature traits, however iron-clad, including the floating fish, the charming yet self-important little man and the hilarious detailed flourishes to the costumes right down to the bell lashed to the bird’s leg. Are those chicken feet? Say, those tail feathers look a bit suspicious… Don’t miss the opportunity to hang this delightful warrior in your home. (See options...) |

College Of Magical KnowledgeThis is a good place for retreat and contemplation. You can see that all kinds of people go there. There are the Bird Hunters, the Fishwalker, a butterfly fisherman, the Pear Balancer, and other Fellowes of the College. The implication, however, is that there is a lot more going on that you can’t see. Charaters from all realms come to this place to develop. This is the navel of a lot of what happens in “the land a little left of reality.” “Scientia est Potentia,” the inscription over the entrance, means “Knowledge is Power.” It doesn’t necessarily refer to the traditional human uses of power, however. This knowledge gives access to the magic, not the power to become political beings or financiers. You don’t learn ordinary things here. The Fellowes have an incredible library of stuff which we can only guess at. It informs them and gets them to where they are going… which definitely isn’t the same place that regular universities guide you to. (See options...) |

Guardian In The WoodsThat touch of enchantment is what makes a great painting a James Christensen. “As a fantasy artist,” he says, “I am fortunate to have such a broad range of icons to play with: Puffy Guys, mechanical things, beautiful women and floating fish. I can find a beautiful place in nature and paint it like a landscape painter but I get to keep going, to magic it up a bit. “The Guardian in the Woods is a Mother Nature-type guy (I think the two may have been an item at one time). He is the strong, silent type, which is why you may not have heard of him. He watches over the woods and the all that lives there. Like Gandolf, we aren’t really sure if he’s mortal or not. He’s looks like a hermit and smells like one, too. “The inclusion of the Guardian in this scene sends it into the realm of make believe. On a hike I found a white tree that had fallen down. Flowers that looked like bleached crepe paper were growing in the bushes around the trunk. ‘What a great painting this would make,’ I thought. I just had to figure out what to add and wait long enough for the right character to appear. Now he’s visible, but for just a moment, because with a quick tip of his hat he disappears again like Santa Claus.” The Guardian in the Woods is a delicious landscape with Christensen magic. You can choose the 30" x 14" Fine Art Giclèe Canvas and frame it with nothing coming between you and this great piece of art. Or, you can frame the 27" x 12 1/2" Fine Art Giclèe Paper under glass. Either way, these rich James Christensen fine art editions are truly fantastic works of art. (See options...) |

Jonah“Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.” (Jonah 1:17) I have always loved the story of Jonah and the whale. When I read the scripture that said that the Lord had “prepared a great fish” to swallow the recalcitrant prophet, my imagination took off. If I were preparing a magical fish, it would be no ordinary whale or grouper! So I painted my version of Jonah’s special fish. The window is one way glass. The effect would be ruined if Jonah could see out! (See options...) |
